In 1845, once the immigration law was enacted , the Chilean state sponsored a program to colonize the country’s southern region. The process was carried out by Bernardo Philippi and Vicente Perez Rosales who encouraged German immigrants to settle in the “Los Lagos” Region. This intriguing tour of the towns of Llanquihue, Frutillar and Puerto Octay, focuses on the culture, history, arts and gastronomy of the German colony. This privileged area, home to numerous lakes, rivers, waterfalls, volcanoes and millennia-old native forests is what dazzled and inspired the first immigrants to settle in the waters of Llanquihue. Dig into the past and revive with us this magical story, The Colonists’ Trail.
